Student Gmail Instructions
There are two ways to login to your Halifax CC Gmail account.
Option 1: From the HCC homepage (www.halifaxcc.edu), click the Gmail icon.
Option 2: From the Google homepage (www.google.com), click Mail.
Username and Password
All HCC Gmail users follow this naming convention for usernames and passwords:
Username: First initial of your first name, your last name, the last 3 digits of your Colleague student ID followed by this: @halifaxcc.edu. (Note: There may be some exceptions to this, especially if you have changed your name.)
For example, Jane Doe, whose Colleague student ID is 1234567, has this username: jdoe567@halifaxcc.edu. You may visit this Web site, too, to determine your email address/username (also called user ID): What’s my user ID?
Password: 0000 followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number.
For example, Jane Doe's last 4 SSN digits are 1234. Therefore, her password is this: 00001234
If you change your HCC Gmail password and it suddenly stops working, try the default: HCC####! (replace #### with the last 4 digits of your SSN).
The first time you access your Gmail account, you will see this “welcome.”
Read the terms of service. Then, click “I accept. Continue to my account.” to activate your account.
Congratulations! You are ready to use your HCC email.
Click on your Inbox to read the messages sent by your Gmail team. Please take a few moments to review the links and learn how to use this powerful tool.
Important Security Note:
If you are using a shared or public computer to check your mail, do not let your browser "remember" your password. Additionally, when you are finished, be sure to click "Sign out" (located in the upper right hand corner when you click near your name, e-mail address, or profile picture). Then, close the browser.

Please note: This is your HCC Gmail account and is the only account that instructors have access to in Blackboard and the student information system. You can use your Gmail account for personal email, as well.
