So you want to be a Paralegal?
HCC is the place for you! |
 |
About the program:
The Paralegal Technology curriculum is completely
online! All Paralegal Technology courses are taught online by licensed
North Carolina Attorneys!
The program is a 3 Year Associate in Applied Science
Program.
The Paralegal Technology curriculum prepares
individuals to work under the supervision of attorneys by performing
routine legal tasks and assisting with substantive legal work. A
paralegal/legal assistant may not practice law, give legal advice, or
represent clients in a court of law.
Course work includes substantive and procedural
legal knowledge in the areas of civil litigation, legal research and
writing, real estate, family law, wills, estates, trusts, and
commercial law. Required courses also include subjects such as
English, mathematics, and computer utilization.
Graduates are trained to assist attorneys in probate
work, investigations, public records search, drafting and filing legal
documents, research, and office management.
Employment opportunities are available in private
law firms, governmental agencies, banks, insurance agencies, and other
business organizations.
The Program has recently been certified by North
Carolina State Bar, ensuring that HCC Graduates in the Paralegal
Program can sit for the Certification Exam and become Certified
Paralegals!

What can I do with a degree in Paralegal Technology?
While lawyers assume responsibility for legal work,
they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. In fact,
paralegals – also called legal assistants - continue to assume a
growing range of tasks and perform many of the same tasks as lawyers!
