The 2008 Practical
Nursing (PN) Pinning Ceremony was held in The Centre at
Halifax Community College, July 28. College staff, family
and guests gathered for the ceremony honoring the
accomplishments of the class that included 15 members.
This was the sixth pinning ceremony for the PN program at
HCC, a part of the Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson-Halifax (NEWH)
Consortium. The keynote speaker for the event was Audrey
Hardy, RN, MSN, who is the sixth floor manager at Halifax
Regional Medical Center.
Hardy talked about being prepared. As you enter the
profession of nursing, come prepared, she advised. She
recommended that graduates be prepared for increasing
numbers of elderly and young consumers, increasing
technology, lifelong learning, making the lives of others
better, having fun, learning something new everyday, caring
for oneself, balancing work and life, refreshing and
re-energizing, finding a good mentor, and being a good
I challenge you to be the best you can be. You've already
made a good start in that direction, Hardy said.
