The 2008 Practical Nursing (PN) Pinning Ceremony was held in The Centre at Halifax Community College, July 28. College staff, family and guests gathered for the ceremony honoring the accomplishments of the class that included 15 members.

This was the sixth pinning ceremony for the PN program at HCC, a part of the Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson-Halifax (NEWH) Consortium. The keynote speaker for the event was Audrey Hardy, RN, MSN, who is the sixth floor manager at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Hardy talked about being prepared. “As you enter the profession of nursing, come prepared,” she advised. She recommended that graduates be prepared for increasing numbers of elderly and young consumers, increasing technology, lifelong learning, making the lives of others better, having fun, learning something new everyday, caring for oneself, balancing work and life, refreshing and re-energizing, finding a good mentor, and being a good mentor.

“I challenge you to be the best you can be. You've already made a good start in that direction,” Hardy said.

PN graduates included Katrina Alston, Jamiann Bazemore, Rolanda Clayton, Ray Davenport, April Hamer, Cortney Hammack, Susan Hasty, Beth Joyner, Marsha Lynch, Tiffany Richardson, Lavern Stephens, Jackie Thompson, Christina Vaughan, Jacqueline Vinson, and Zondria Wade.
