HCC receives grant from Upper Coastal Plain Learning Council for iPad Project
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) recently received a $4,000 grant from the Upper Coastal Plain Learning Council (UCPLC). Together, the organizations have developed a program to encourage students to receive Career Readiness Certificates (CRC).

With the grant funds, HCC purchased seven iPads, which will be loaded with CRC software and will help students prepare for the test. The project will enhance the instructional capabilities of the CRC lab and will be used as a demonstration project.

The CRC is a portable credential that promotes career development and skill attainment for individuals and confirms to employers that an individual possesses basic workplace skills in:
  • Applied Math
  • Locating Information
  • Reading
The UCPLC was formed to provide higher educational opportunities through a collective effort of the University of North Carolina, the North Carolina Community College System and the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities in order to achieve the UNC-Tomorrow recommendations to increase access to higher education through UNC institutions and community colleges. The UCPLC was formed to address this collaboration covering the five county regions including Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson counties and including the two private colleges in the region, Barton and NC Wesleyan.
