HCC Child Care Center maintains five-star status

WELDON, N.C. Ė The North Carolina Rated License Assessment Project recently conducted a three-year reassessment at the Halifax Community College (HCC) Child Care Center as part of the centerís N.C. Star Rated License. The assessment process is voluntary and plays a key role in the N.C. Star Rated License system because the overall average score best represents a programís level of quality.

The assessment score is based on a seven-point scale where 1 = "Inadequate," 3 = "Minimal," 5 = "Good," and 7 = "Excellent." The score is used to help determine whether a facility is awarded a three, four, or five-star license.

For its program standards, the HCC Child Care Center was eligible for seven out of seven points. As a result, the center will continue to enjoy its status as a five-star facility, the highest rating awarded by the state of North Carolina. HCC features the first five-star child care center in Halifax County.

Vicki Collier, center director, said, "A center is only as good as its staff. The HCC Child Care Center employs teaching staff that has the educational qualifications, knowledge, and professional commitment needed to promote children's learning and development. The children are also provided a safe and healthy physical environment. Our center is among the best in the state as well as the nation as evidenced by its program earning the highest rating awarded on both levels."

As a five-star facility, the HCC Child Care Center provides and maintains quality care, nurturing, and education to the children it serves. In 2012, the facility became the first and only center in Halifax County and the surrounding area to achieve program accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children Academy for Early Childhood Programs.
