WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) trustees and administration attended the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Leadership Congress 2013 held Oct. 2-5 in Seattle, Wash. The event was titled "Moving the Needle—Society Demands, Community Colleges Deliver."

While at the congress, the HCC delegation had the opportunity to make a presentation titled "Rebuilding a Community College's Trust, Respect, and Effectiveness after a Period of Turmoil." The presentation reviewed the challenges that HCC faced that turned into negative perceptions about the College on a local, regional and state-wide basis. It also looked at how the HCC Board of Trustees worked diligently to build comradery between themselves, the president, students, faculty, staff and the community.

Presenters were trustees Michael Felt and Dr. Stanley Edwards as well as HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. who provided some strategies that have worked to build trust and ensure the mission and goals of the institution have been and are being met. They shared some of the best practices implemented in the last six years that have resulted in increased support for the College as well as some challenges that HCC still faces.
