Reneé Jones Carter Memorial Scholarship
established at HCC
Halifax Community College’s Bryan
Carter has established the Reneé Jones Carter Memorial
Scholarship. Preference will be given to those interested in
English as a major. If none exist, those interested in
teacher preparation will be given preference. Financial need
must be demonstrated. The scholarship will be awarded to a
student who maintains a 2.0 grade point average or above.
Carter explained his motivation for
establishing the scholarship. “My late wife was an
elementary school teacher for 14 years. She loved helping
the underprivileged. She felt it was her duty to help the
defenseless,” he said. “I wanted to continue that tradition
in her stead.”
An English instructor at HCC, Carter has
been with the college for nearly six years.
