HCC’s BLET Academy graduates 37th class

Halifax Community College (HCC) Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) cadets graduated in a ceremony on campus, Dec. 14. This marked HCC’s 37th BLET Academy graduation. Northampton County High School-East JROTC provided the Honor Guard.

Graduates included Cadet Shatel Coates, Cadet Stanley Cole Jr., Officer Doug Davis, Cadet Clarice Hagbourne, Cadet Ikeisha Jacobs, Deputy William James Jr., Deputy Jonathan Jenkins, Cadet Michael Logan, Cadet David Luke, Deputy Doug Mann, Cadet Joshua Martin, Cadet Dustin Newsome, Cadet Danny Radford, Cadet Charles Reynolds, Deputy Marcus West, and Cadet Issaii Williams.

 

Awards and recognition were also presented. Cadet Danny Radford was recognized as class president. The Academic Excellence award went to Deputy Jonathan Jenkins. Cadet Joshua Martin garnered the Top Gun award. Cadet Michael Logan earned the Outstanding Cadet award. Radford and Jenkins earned Vehicle Operation honors.

 

The Honorable Juan Vaughan, sheriff of Hertford County, gave the keynote address. “Don’t take any call as a routine call. In my opinion, there are no routine calls. …Be safe and do what you know is right and everything else will fall into place,” cautioned Vaughan.  He also advised graduates not to get caught up in bad or compromising situations.

 

“Go to work and do what you have to do. …Be loyal to whoever you work for and give them your 100 percent,” he said. Vaughan also encouraged graduates to get all of the training they can. “Be professional, have character and integrity, be trustworthy, do what you’re supposed to do and treat everybody the way you want to be treated,” he added.
