Halifax County Firefighters Association establishes scholarship at HCC

The Halifax County Firefighters Association has established the Halifax County Firefighters Association Scholarship at HCC. The scholarship will recognize and promote academic achievement for a student enrolled at HCC who is in need of financial assistance.

The Halifax County Firefighters Association Scholarship will be awarded to a student who maintains a 3.0 GPA and is enrolled at least part-time at HCC. First priority will be given to an active Halifax County firefighter. Second priority will be given to a child or spouse of an active county firefighter. Qualifying departments include Davie, Darlington, Enfield, Halifax, Hobgood, Littleton, Rheasville, Roanoke Rapids, Scotland Neck, Tillery, and Weldon. Applicants will need to provide recommendation letters recognizing their citizenship qualities as well as community involvement through volunteer activities or leadership roles.

When asked about establishing the scholarship, Kevin Kupietz, association vice president said, “We wanted to help promote the fire service in Halifax County. Through education, we thought that this was the best way to do that.”
