Roanoke Valley Chamber Hosts Groundhog Day
WHAT: Groundhog Day (or Career
Day) is the middle school job shadowing program of the Roanoke Valley
Business-Education-Partnership. Participating students experienced part of
a day "shadowing" a particular person, department or business. Ninety-six
eighth graders from eight middle schools participated.
WHY: Shadowing provides a broad
overview of all aspects of a worksite by allowing students to follow one
or more persons on the job. More than 40 businesses and agencies such as
the RR Police and Fire Departments, attorneys, Halifax County Court
System, DSS, HRMC, realtors, restaurants, the Daily Herald, WZRU,
WHO: A partnership representing local businesses throughout the
Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, Halifax Community College and the
public school districts of Halifax, Northampton, Roanoke Rapids and
WHEN: THURSDAY, February 8, 2007 (Make-up day from Snow))
9:00 am until 1pm
WHERE: Businesses across the
Roanoke Valley. Began at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center and ended
with pizza lunch.
