Why Automotive Technology?

Job security and great money in a rewarding career, that's why! The Roanoke Valley area is screaming “We need more competent employees!” High-paid positions are readily available to you, but the first step belongs to you!

Nationwide, more than 60,000 new technicians are needed per year, and that number is likely to grow in the years ahead. The demand has never been greater! The complexity of modern vehicles make automotive service and repair a high-tech profession which requires technicians to work with some of the most sophisticated computerized control systems on the market!

The Associate Degree

The newest addition to the automotive program at Halifax Community College is the Associate in Applied Science Degree. This degree is for the person who is serious about the automotive industry, and wants to be in a position to move to management or higher level education. AAS Degree graduates will learn Manual Transmissions, Automatic Transmissions, Automotive Servicing, Auto Shop Management, and Interpersonal Psychology. All of these courses are geared toward helping individuals achieve success in the Automotive Industry.

What can I do with the Diploma?

Easy! You can enter an exciting field diagnosing and repairing today's sophisticated computer-operated vehicles! If for some reason, making a lot of money as an automotive technician doesn't appeal to you (national average is $60,000 per year) , there are many other jobs in the automotive industry that are not directly repairing vehicles. Some examples of jobs with a diploma include (but are not limited to), service writer, parts manager, parts technician, and even become an equipment representative.
The Roanoke Valley is full of opportunity for anyone with an automotive background. HCC Automotive is just the place to start!
