Enrollment Process

Where do I go to get started?

The first step is to contact the instructor, Hunter Taylor, at (252) 536-7228. He can give you advice on how to get started and what direction you may want to take with your career. He is also available on email at taylorh@halifaxcc.edu.

Filling Out the Application

When you have decided that automotive technology is the direction you want to take, the next place you will visit is the admissions office, which is located in room 307. This is where applications can be filled out, and the friendly staff will be happy to assist you with any transfer requests, if you have transfer credit from another institution.

You can download and print out an application here.

Taking the Placement Tests

In order to be accepted into the automotive program, a student must first demonstrate adequate mathematical, reading, and writing skills. Therefore, after filling out the application, the next step will be to take the placement test. The placement test measures the basic skills of the student, and allows the advisor to place him in classes that will meet his or her needs. Please take these tests very seriously, as they will determine which classes your advisor puts you in, and you are not allowed to re-test unless you have a score which is within two points of the cut-off score.

What about my SAT scores?

SAT scores can be used in place of the placement test. See Admissions for more details.
