Student Gmail Instructions

1. Navigate to this Web site:
             email.halifaxcc.net (You will also find this link on the HCC Home Page.)

2. Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields (see below).
   
   

   Username and Password
   
   All HCC Gmail users follow this naming convention for usernames and passwords:
   
   Username: First initial of your first name, your last name, and the last 3 digits of your Colleague student ID. For example, Jane Doe, whose Colleague student ID is 1234567, has this username: jdoe567.
   
   Password: 4 leading zeroes followed by the last 4 digits of your social security number. For example, Jane Doe's last 4 SSN digits are 1234. Therefore, her password is this: 00001234.
   
   Note: If you login from the HCC homepage, you only need to enter your username. However, if you login from Google's homepage (www.google.com), you have to enter your full e-mail address. Here is Jane Doe's full e-mail address as an example: jdoe567@halifaxcc.net.
   
   If you change your HCC Gmail password and it suddenly stops working, try the default: 0000#### (replace #### with the last 4 digits of your SSN).

   The first time you access your Gmail account, you have to setup your Gmail account (See below). Type the characters you see in the picture in the block provided.
   
   Read the terms of service. Then, click the button to accept the terms and create your account. There is a printable version, if you want to print a hard copy.

3. Congratulations, you are ready to use your HCC email.

4. Click on your Inbox to read the message sent by your Gmail team. Please take a few moments to review the links and learn how to use this powerful tool.

5. Important Security Note: If you are using a shared or public computer to check your mail, do not let your browser "remember" your password. And be sure to click "Sign out" in the upper right hand corner when you are through. Then, close the browser.

6. Technical Support:

   If you need help with your Gmail account, you have these options: The staff in the ERC (the computer lab located in the library) offers one-on-one assistance. You can also contact the Gmail Administrator, Beth Gray-Robertson (Room 158 in the library or robertsonb@halifaxcc.edu, or stop by Information Systems (Room 111A in the 100 building).

   
   
   Please note: This is your HCC Gmail account and is the only account that instructors have access to in Blackboard and the student information system. You can use your Gmail account for personal email, as well.
