The Advertising and
Graphic Design program at HCC will be accepting new students January of
2006. Entering students begin classes in the Macintosh design studio
Spring semester with exciting software. The Graphic Design program has
several offerings:

The 1 semester Graphic
Design certificate is offered fall semester. A student gets a overview of
print, web, traditional, digital, photographic and identity graphics in
just five classes. It is an introduction to the field, equipment, software
and most importantly the process of taking personal creativity and putting
it into the marketplace.

The two semester Computer
Graphics certificate is a cross-platform certificate with a focus on both
web design and traditional print media
Graphic software and equipment are expensive and continually changing. A
good opportunity is afforded at HCC to get these skills in just seven
classes. Master these skills for personal use, update your professional
expertise, or acquire the proper credentials for the newest jobs in
advertising, marketing, design, graphics and E-commerce. Part-time or full
time students may complete the certificate in less than a year.

The 1 year diploma program
prepares students for a more traditional career in advertising graphics
and all coursework applies the the associate degree.

2 year Associate Degree in
Advertising and Graphic Design can prepare you for jobs like web designer,
production print designer, advertising agency, newspapers, design agency
and a few students choose to continue on to a university for an advanced
degree.
Students entering
the Graphic Design program Spring 2006 will be eligible to choose from
classes like Drawing, The Design of Advertising, Typography, Art
Appreciation, Computer Graphics, Introduction to Internet Multimedia,
Introduction to Computers, and Introduction to Marketing. The Advertising and Graphic Design
curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills
necessary for employment in the graphic design profession which emphasizes
design, websites, advertising, illustration, and digital and multimedia
preparation of printed and electronic promotional materials.
Students will be
trained in the development of concept and design for promotional materials
such as newspaper and magazine advertisements, posters, folders,
letterheads, corporate symbols, brochures, booklets, preparation of art
for printing, lettering and typography, photography, and electronic media.
Graduates should
qualify for employment opportunities with graphic design studios,
advertising agencies, printing companies, department stores, a wide
variety of manufacturing industries, newspapers, web design, e-commerce
and businesses with in-house graphics operations.

a more exciting time to be a graphic designer and there has never been a
more exciting medium for creative and artistic people than the medium of
digital graphics. Robert Frost ‘s poetry speaks of the roads we travel
boasting “and I took the one
less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
