HCC FOUNDATION CAMPUS FUND DRIVE NETS 96% PARTICIPATION

"Planting the Seeds of Growth"

The Halifax Community College Foundation just completed the 2001 Annual Campus Fund Drive when HCC employees are asked to make pledges to support the student scholarship program at the college.

According to Pam Ballew, HCC Foundation director, "It seems this fall is the year for records at HCC. With student enrollment at a record level, our employees have responded to the 2001 Campus Fund Drive in record numbers. In fact, we attained a record-breaking 96% participation rate among our faculty and staff."

Campus employee donors numbered 160 for the fund drive, and gifts and pledges totaled $11,054.

An element of fun was added to this year’s fund drive by introducing a drawing for door prizes. Through the generosity of the following local businesses, the college fund drive had an extra boost:

  • Trip for two to Biltmore House – donated by Carlson-Wagonlit Travel
  • $25 Chamber gift certificates donated by BB &T, Branham & Associates, Centura Bank, Halifax Electric Membership Corp. and Roanoke Electric Cooperative
  • $25 gift certificate – Creative Designs
  • $10 gift certificates (2) – David’s Restaurant

Scholarships can provide opportunities for many students who cannot afford otherwise the cost of tuition and books. They also pave the way for future graduates who will become productive taxpayers in our community. Scholarships are most certainly an investment in the community’s future.

The Foundation was established in 1976 to receive tax-exempt donations and to channel them into areas that will benefit the college. The Foundation directors have determined that the greatest area of need at HCC is student scholarships.

For information about establishing a named scholarship or to contribute to an existing one, call the HCC Foundation office at 536-7239. All gifts are tax deductible.
