HCC STUDENT WINS BABY LOVE AWARD

Pam Carlson, HCC student and young mother, was recently selected as the "Outstanding Participant in the Baby Love Program" from counties in eastern North Carolina. Her sponsor, the Child Service Coordinator Program of the Halifax County Health Department, nominated her for the award.

Pam Carlson, a sophomore at Halifax Community College, majoring in Human Services Technology-Social Services, was recently recognized at the annual conference in Greensboro as the "Outstanding Participant in the Baby Love Program." Ms. Carlson was selected over all other candidates from eastern North Carolina as this year's recipient and won an all-expenses paid stay in Greensboro with her two little girls – Mary, 3 and Kala, 2.

According to Takisha Pittman, Child Service Coordinator of the Halifax County Health Department, Pam was the hands-down choice for the award. Ms. Carlson has been an exemplary participant in the program since the birth of her first child and is known for her outstanding participation.

In addition to her busy schedule of classes and the full responsibility of tending to her young daughters, Ms. Carlson works part-time in the college print shop as a work-study student.
