HCC Plans 1st Annual Art Exhibit

Halifax Community College plans to host its first annual
art exhibit. The goal is to provide an opportunity for area residents to
showcase their art. This year's title—Art Moves In Diverse Ways—highlights
the rich cultural diversity in the Roanoke Valley. The exhibit will
include works submitted by area school students and a public competition
in which all media will be accepted, including paintings, drawings,
graphic design and animation, photography, quilting, pottery, stained
glass, jewelry and beadwork, weaving, woodcarving, metalwork, sculpture,
film and video.
The artwork will be selected and judged based on original and effective
portrayal of the exhibits theme.
Judging took place at a reception on January 11,
2003. Artwork selected will remain on display at the college through
November, 2003.
Members of the committee include Joy Cooley and Wendy
Ferguson (Co-chairs), Gloria Tysinger and Mary Tillery (HCC), Tyus Few
(Halifax County Schools), Christina Gregory (Roanoke Rapids City Schools).
Susie Strickland (Northampton County Schools) and Yolanda Pierce (Weldon
