Ben White, power manager at International Paper Company in Roanoke
Rapids, visited a Halifax Community College Pulp and Paper Technology
class last month to discuss power generation and its use in pulp and paper
mill operations.
The HCC Pulp & Paper program is the first and only program of its
kind in the North Carolina Community College System. International Paper's
outstanding cooperation since the inception of the college's Pulp &
Paper Tech curriculum has been key to the program's success. The Roanoke
Rapids mill has offered equipment, resources, and technical assistance on
a regular basis to help provide a statewide educational model for
excellence in the field of pulp and paper technology.
According to William J. (Jim) Cooper, Jr., Roanoke Rapids, vice
president and operations manager, International Paper is proud to have
been directly involved in designing and developing the Pulp and Paper
Technology Program at HCC in answer to the industry's need for trained
employees.
