A new nursing scholarship has been established at
Halifax Community College to honor the memory of the late Nikki Batten,
a former HCC student who was employed as a nurse at Halifax Regional
Medical Center.
Two current HCC nursing students, Denise Garner and
Angie Harrison, along with Mike Forte, R. N., of Halifax Medical
Specialists, established the scholarship. These friends and former
classmates of Ms. Batten were motivated to establish this scholarship
because of their friendship and because they believed the memory of such
a fine person and nurse should be honored.
According to Garner and Harrison, a number of
fundraisers are being planned to build the scholarship fund in
anticipation of awarding the first scholarship this fall to a deserving
HCC student.
The recipient of the Nikki Batten Memorial Nursing
Scholarship must be enrolled full time in the nursing program at HCC,
maintain a 3.0 GPA and receive no more than $500 in other financial
assistance per semester. The amount of the annual award is currently set
at $250. |
