"WISE GUYS" VISIT HCC

A large group of 7th and 8th grade students from
Halifax County Middle Schools visited the HCC campus to enrich their
experiences in making "wise" decisions – in career choices
and in educational opportunities.
"Wise Guys" is a male curriculum program,
sponsored by Halifax County Schools for middle schoolers whose primary
goal is to prevent teen pregnancy. The ultimate goal is to help the
youngsters make wise decisions - primarily those concerning sexual
experiences - including education in the prevention of teenage
pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. But the program also
covers information to prevent other menaces to society, including drugs
and violence.
"Wise Guys" offers positive learning
experiences to produce wise and productive citizens. Each participant
must complete 10 hours of community service in order to participate in
other fun-filled activities offered through the program.
Halifax County Schools adult sponsors who accompanied
the group to HCC included Norma Hedgepeth – male program coordinator,
Allen Sledge – Brawley advisor, Harold Leary – Enfield advisor,
Simon Justice – Eastman advisor, and Corey Tyler – W.R. Davie
advisor. |
