The Alpha Eta Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Halifax
Community College recently received commendation during the Carolinas
Regional Convention in recognition of the local chapter's successful
attainment of specific national goals. Upon return from the meeting, the
PTK officers and sponsors were invited to the meeting of the Halifax
Community College Board of Trustees to present the awards and trophies
they brought home.
The HCC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter fulfilled all requirements for the
distinction of being named a "Five-Star Chapter" – the
highest reward available from the national organization headquarters.
The HCC group also earned the Pinnacle Award for membership growth, a
communications award, and a newsletter award. Dr. Pocahontas Jones
received the Horizon Award for outstanding service as a faculty advisor
and other club members won the following awards: students Ruth Gee, Zena
Gibbs and Deborah Wray – the Carolinas PTK Hall of Honor.
In addition to the trophies and certificates, the chapter also
received monetary awards totaling $325 to be used toward attendance at
PTK events.
