a shop of their own after they complete the cosmetology program
at HCC. HCC instructor Kenneth Harris stands between the two. |
Tasha D. Rice and Damius M. Rice of Rocky Mount are
enrolled together in Halifax Community College's Cosmetology program.
The couple was just married in July, and now they are planning their
future and want to open a business of their own. "We are looking to
make lots of money!" said husband Damius.
Their idea is non-traditional in that Damius had the
interest in cosmetology first. "He brought me into the field,"
said a smiling Tasha. Damius played football in high school and Tasha
was a cheerleader, she said – providing the meeting ground for the
two.
He has been cutting people's hair on the side for
more than 11 years – shearing the locks of his cousins, uncles, and
other relatives. Tasha developed an interest in cosmetology from
watching him.
"What a way to keep it all in the family,"
said HCC lead cosmetology instructor Kenneth Harris. He invites others
who might be interested in a career in cosmetology to come by his office
