Law Enforcement officers from Dare, Currituck, Hertford, Northampton,
Bertie/Martin and Halifax Counties successfully completed the NC
Detention Officers’ Certification Course at Halifax Community College
recently to receive certification to work in police departments or
sheriff’s departments anywhere within the state.
All of the participants took a state-administered comprehensive exam
at the completion of the course work, and the HCC school participants
scored 100 percent on the state exam.
The course consisted of 168 hours of training. One segment involved a
week of intensive training in defensive tactics which took the officers
"to the mats" with special team trainers, Melvin Smith and
Anthony Boyd.
R.K. Carroll was the school director.
