For the past several years, Halifax Community College has hosted a
"Thank You Luncheon" for area school counselors and
administrators. This year was a continuation of the tradition, and the
theme was Partnerships in Education.
The HCC president and key administrators spoke briefly during the
luncheon meeting and reiterated the plea to the educators present who
represented all of the schools in the service area, to encourage high
school students to seek additional educational opportunities following
graduation. There was a special emphasis this year in finding ways to
recruit the large number of area high school graduates who have no
particular plans for their education past high school.
Area educators learned about HCC programs and services from Dr. Gasper,
and other staff members - Dr. Laura Buffaloe - vice president of
instructional services, Dee Amason - dean of student services, Terry
Wheeler – dean of curriculum programs, Ray Barmer – director of
financial aid and enrollment management, Joan Gilstrap – distance
learning director, Evelyn Kientz – dean of evening and weekend programs,
and Mary Hutchinson- director of literacy programs. |
Area school superintendents, principals, vocational and guidance
counselors and other administrators from all of the area schools were
invited to attend a thank-you luncheon at Halifax Community College last
week. The theme was Partnerships in Education.
Dr. Ted Gasper, HCC president, spoke briefly to outline plans and
projects that are already in progress to improve the college services,
along with other representatives from key divisions of the college who
spoke on specific topics related to high school students. |
