Selected students from all of the Halifax County and other area
school systems participated in Ground Hog Day - a job shadowing
opportunity for young, career-minded middle school students. It is an
annual event, sponsored by the Roanoke Valley JobReady Partnership.
The students selected career path preferences and were matched to
business settings appropriate to the career choices they wanted to
explore. Some of the kids opted for business settings – banks, real
estate, etc. Some chose selected instructors’ classrooms at HCC. The
object of the event was for the youngsters to learn what it takes to get
the job done in the real world.
Students and hosts alike reported that they learned a lot from the
experience.
