Last month, the Halifax Community College Pulp and Paper students enrolled in Pulping Technology II visited North Carolina State University’s Department of Wood and Paper Science to participate in a study involving a total chlorine-free bleaching experiment. One of their hosts at the NC State event was Dr. Ved Prakash Naithani, a researcher in the NC State Department of Wood and Science.

Recently, Dr. Ved came to HCC to conduct an elemental chlorine-free bleaching experiment for Pulp and Paper students at the HCC campus in Weldon. As environmental concerns over the use of chlorine as a bleaching agent have become more widespread, the pulp and paper industry has been forced to pursue the use of environmentally friendly bleaching technologies. Dr. Ved’s experiment was an exciting and insightful experience for the Halifax Community College, Pulp and Paper Students.
