Director of
BriteSmilz Family & Community Connections, LLC, Evelyn S.
Dawson recently presented a $5,000 gift to the Damian S. Hawkins
Memorial Scholarship, which was originally established at
HCC in 2005. The scholarship recognizes and promotes
academic achievement and excellence for students enrolled in
the Human Services Technology Program at the college.
Each year, two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each are
awarded to HCC students, pending funds. To be selected,
students must be enrolled full-time in the HCC Human
Services Technology Program and plan to continue their
education and obtain a bachelor's or master's degree in
social work or psychology and specialize in working with
at-risk or troubled youth.
Selection is based on a grade point average of 2.5 or
higher, residence in Halifax or Northampton counties, two
letters of recommendation recognizing the applicant's
qualities of character and leadership, and demonstration of
financial need as evidenced by a written statement from the
applicant.
For more information on establishing a scholarship, contact
the HCC Foundation Office at (252) 536-7234.
