Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony held at Halifax CC
Class of 2010 is largest ever at college
The
2010 Practical Nursing (PN) Pinning Ceremony was held in The
Centre at Halifax Community College, July 29. College staff,
family and guests gathered for the ceremony honoring the
accomplishments of the class that included 20 members, the
largest class of PN students to ever graduate from the
college.
This was the eighth pinning ceremony for
the PN program at HCC, a part of the
Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson-Halifax (NEWH) Nursing Consortium. The
keynote speaker for the event was Nursing Department Head
Stephanie Terry.
“You’ve earned this day,” said Terry.
“Hold your head high and know that you have achieved a great
milestone in your life…Trust what the instructors have
taught you. Treat the patients as if they were your own
family.”
Terry added, “You’re going to be faced
with situations every day of your nursing career where you
may choose to take a shortcut or you can do what’s right…I
encourage you always to do what is right and best for your
patients.”
She stressed that graduates be leaders to
their co-workers and in the community, and to be the kind of
nurse they would want caring for themselves. She also
encouraged graduates to continue learning, to persevere and
to set personal and professional goals.
“I believe with all my heart that nursing
is a calling on your life. It is a tough calling, sometimes
painful, but a beautiful calling that can never be put into
words. My prayer for you is that even on your worse days,
you will love what you do,” said Terry.
PN graduates included Shelia Artis, Arthea
S. Arrington Boyd, Jena Marshale Davis, Kristen Regina
DeBerry, Cory Dixon Dill, Karen Denise Gray, Florissa N.
Hale-Privott, Carolyn Hunter, Semiko Newsome Jacobs, Jackie
F. Hinton, Lakisha Shonte’ Long, Linwood Brent Mason, Dixie
Howell Medlin, Gina Massey Peterson, Ilene Luepkes Scott,
Lorrie Smith, Latoya Thompson, Julia Keeter Vann, Shamonia
Vick, and Requita Grant Williams.
