HCC honors Student Academic Excellence at third annual event

WELDON, N.C. - Halifax Community College (HCC) celebrated student academic success during the third annual Academic Excellence Awards Ceremony, Apr. 13. During the event, those who were included on the President’s and Dean’s lists for fall 2009 and Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges award recipients were recognized.

HCC Student Government Association President/North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association President Theresa Raymond was the guest speaker.

“First, I would like to congratulate all of the students here. You have shown me along with the entire student body and the community that hard work will pay off. You overcome obstacles that we all have to face,” said Raymond. “You are succeeding… As a family member of Halifax Community College, we are utilizing the resources provided to us to achieve excellence.”

She encouraged students to be the best they can be and to keep moving forward. “When you come back to Halifax Community College as alumni, you can pass that message of excellence along and you can tell your story… You kept moving forward and you’ve proved that working hard pays off,” added Raymond.

Honor students were then recognized. To qualify for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn A’s in all subjects for a semester (4.0). To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn at least a 3.25 semester grade point average. Students enrolled in any developmental courses are not eligible for President’s or Dean’s List. A student with an “Incomplete” grade is not eligible for the Dean’s List or President’s List in the semester the “Incomplete” is received.
