HCC hosts area high school juniors
learning about careers
Halifax
Community College hosted Juniors Learning About Careers Day,
March 12 for area high school juniors from Roanoke Rapids,
Northampton County-West, Halifax Academy, Weldon STEM,
Cornerstone Christian and HCC Literacy Education. Students
had the opportunity to explore the campus and hear from
instructors, students and alumni in different academic areas
about careers.
Students toured the campus and heard from speakers in
business administration and affiliated careers, graphic and
interior design, automotive and welding, college transfer
and teacher preparation, cosmetology and mortuary science,
allied health, industrial systems and criminal justice, and
wellness and science fields.
During
the general session, Dean of Student Services Barbara
Bradley-Hasty welcomed students and guests and acknowledged
the schools in attendance. Then, HCC student and PRIDE
Assistant Learning Coach David Laskey spoke about the PRIDE
Program and Student Support Services. Fellow HCC student and
Student Government Association President Theresa Raymond
spoke about opportunities with SGA and Women of Excellence
organizations. Kim Daly, a student in the Early Childhood
Education Program, performed a song for the visitors.
