Medication Aide Administration
class slated at HCC
Halifax Community College’s Continuing Education Department
will offer a Medication Aide Administration class running
Monday through Thursday, March 29-April 15, from 3:30-5:30
p.m., at the Weldon campus. The
registration fee is $65. The instructor will provide more
information about class requirements and expenses.
This 24-hour course covers the basic
preparation for the administration of medications by
unlicensed persons in a variety of settings.
It is designed to prepare persons to take the
competency testing required for listing as a Medication Aide
in the State of North Carolina. Completion of this
medication aide examination and subsequent listing on the NC
Medication Aide Registry will qualify an individual for
consideration of employment in a skilled nursing facility in
NC.
The class will not qualify an individual
in an adult care home. Individuals who wish to work as a
medication aide in an adult care home should contact the NC
Division of Health Service Regulation at 919-855-3765 for
information on medication aide testing required for work in
an adult care home.
There will be multiple skill lab
opportunities within the course as well as skills competency
testing. Each
agency will have rules, policies, and regulations that
students will have to adhere to in addition to the ones
outlined in this course. Students should know and follow the
regulations of their agencies. Those who successfully
complete the Medication Administration Course will test at a
regional test site. There is a separate payment of $50 for
the test.
Pre-registration for the class is required. Students should
contact the Continuing Education Department (Building 400)
on the main campus from 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday;
8 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday for admission requirements and
registration. For more information, call (252) 536-7216,
