SCHWARTZ NAMED HCC’S
VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT

for Institutional Advancement Thomas W. Schwartz
to campus. Schwartz will begin his post Jan. 2.

Halifax Community College President, Dr.
Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. announced today that Thomas W.
Schwartz would be the new Vice President for Institutional
Advancement at Halifax Community College. Griffin noted that
“his experience in higher education advancement, community
colleges and the N.C. Community College System uniquely
qualified Schwartz for the position.” He will begin at his
new post Jan. 2, 2008.
Most recently the Director of Resource Development and
Special Projects at Roanoke-Chowan Community College,
Schwartz has been responsible for the direction of
foundation activities, writing grants, organizing and
carrying out fund raising efforts, managing the
institutional planning and effectiveness processes and
functioning as institutional liaison to the Southern
Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS) accrediting agency.
One of his major duties at HCC will be to provide a
framework for building strong support and lasting
friendships with a variety of college constituencies
including alumni, donors, friends, federal and state
agencies, accrediting organizations, and members of the
community. “With his vast experience in the area of
Institutional Advancement and fund raising, we look forward
to his contributions for many years to come,” said Griffin.
As the new vice president at HCC, Schwartz will also be
responsible for directing the areas of Graphic Arts &
Printing, Grants & Grant Writing (Resource Development),
Public Relations and Marketing, and Legislative & Community
Relations. Schwartz will work closely with the Institutional
Research & Planning Department and the accreditation process
with SACS. He will also serve as Executive Director of the
HCC Educational Foundation, Inc.
Additionally, Schwartz brings experience as a former vice
president for Institutional Advancement and adjunct faculty
member at the College of the Southwest in New Mexico,
faculty member at New Mexico Junior College, and housing
consultant with Rio Grande Behavioral Health Systems, Inc.
He was also a pastor with the New Mexico Conference of the
United Methodist Church from 1984-2004, serving in Texas and
New Mexico.
Schwartz earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the
University of Kentucky in 1979. He also holds a Master of
Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, a certificate in
fund raising management from the Indiana University School
of Philanthropy, a certificate in grant writing from The
Grantsmanship Center, Inc., and a Master of Business
Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Tom Schwartz joining us
in January. We look forward to welcoming him to the HCC
family and working with him to advance our community
college. As aforementioned, he brings a wealth of experience
in higher education and fund raising and I am very pleased
to have him as part of our senior administrative team,” said
Griffin of the appointment. |
