Personal
Profile:
My parents are from West Virginia.
I was born in Connecticut, but raised in Baltimore, Maryland.
I have lived in Texas, Delaware, Japan, Florida, Okinawa,
Tennessee, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and now North Carolina.
When someone asks me where I am from, I say, "I don't know."
I was not born in North Carolina, but I got here as fast as I
could!
I did not finish high school but did get my GED.
I joined the Air Force in 1971; the Air Force got me started in
this college thing; now, college education is my passion.
Educational
Philosophy:
I believe that education is, if not the only, one of the
most important tools one can use in life.
In my life it certainly has been important.
Concerning being a teacher, I believe that what I do is a calling,
a gift from God. When I was
in administration (as a principal of a school) that was just a
vocation; now what I do is my avocation.
I have heard anecdotes of certain teachers making a difference in
someone's life, and I have had students relate that I have done so for
them; that is what motivates me to continue.
