Philosophy of Education and Professional Statement
I believe that every person should have the right to a quality
education. Education can and does change lives. It empowers people to
change the world.
It certainly has made a difference in my
life, and because of my education, I have been able to help others
improve their lives, thus changing the world.
I
am thankful for the opportunity to have a career in education.
It is very rewarding to be able to teach.
I still cannot quite believe that I am a
community college instructor.
I hold this position in high regard.
My
education has been a gift that I could not have even imagined as a
child. My father and mother did not have a college education. I am the
first in my immediate family to get a Bachelor's degree, and the only
person in my extended family to earn a Master's degree. I got my college
educational start in the community college system.
I
credit the community college for enabling me to reach my educational
goals one step at a time.
Because of the open door policy of the Community College System, I did
not have to worry as a student that I would not be admitted to college.
The open door policy is fair education that everyone can take advantage
of no matter what their intellectual abilities are or their economic
status. I am committed to the open door policy and the Community College
System.
At Halifax Community College we had a slogan in the
past that stated, HCC will take you where you want to go. This is my
philosophy of education.
My education has taken me where I want to go
and my teaching can take others where they want to go.
I am eternally grateful to the community college system for the
opportunities my education has afforded me.
It is my hope that I would be given the
opportunity to continue to serve this county and retire in the community
college system.
