Experience: 

I have worked in the helping profession for the past 15 years in a variety of clinical setting to include residential youth facilities, psychiatric inpatient units, social service agencies, corrections and higher education.  I have taught psychology as an adjunct for a few years and made the transition to teaching full-time in the College Transfer Huskins Program and then developed an advising center.  Most recently, I joined the team at HCC in August, 2010 to teach in the Human Services Technology Degree.

I believe learning occurs in the collaborative relationship that is developed in the classroom not only between teacher and student, but peer to peer.  That relationship provides a foundation to evaluate beliefs, learn new skills, challenge self-defeating thoughts and empower students to attain their academic, personal and career goals.  I believe to create life-long learners we as instructors have to model that in the classroom.  One of Aristotle's famous quotes sums up teaching in Applied Sciences; "For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them."
